Volunteer experience position information
Learn Active is a registered charity that provides outdoor education opportunities to young adults with intellectual disabilities.
Our mission is to give people with intellectual disabilities opportunities to explore and have fun in the outdoors while learning new skills, meeting new friends and achieving goals.
We run a range of programmes during the term, holidays, weekends and overnights throughout the year.
We are based at the Cracroft Guide Centre in Cashmere, Christchurch. But conduct our programmes all over Canterbury and beyond.
Our work days are 8.30am – 4pm and some overnight programmes.
Over 16 years of age
People who are flexible, patient and friendly
Local or out of town considered – accommodation may be able to be provided
An interest in the outdoors with a good level of fitness
An interest in working with special needs people
Full driver’s licence prefered but not essential
No experience necessary in outdoor education or working with special needs people, support and training will be given in this area

Specifics can be discussed based on your level and needs- eg programme planning, leading sessions
We are looking for consistency. We prefer longer term, full time or same day each week placements but can consider shorter or longer.
We offer placements all year round, and can make future bookings based on availability. Waiting list also available. We operate monday to friday, with occasional weekend and overnight programmes.
