Learn Active is a registered charity that provides outdoor education opportunities to people with intellectual disabilities.
Our mission is to enable people with intellectual disabilities to explore and have fun in the outdoors while creating and achieving their goals, learning new skills & building friendships.
Karla Roberts – Managing director
Karla Roberts is the managing director of Learn Active. She holds a number of professional qualifications and has extensive experience working with people with disabilities in outdoor education. She started Learn Active as an extension to the Duke of Edinburgh award she was running at a special school and has developed Learn Active into a full time, sustainable organisation.
Qualifications gained: Diploma in Recreational Leadership, Diploma in Adventure Guiding and Instructing, NZOIA Rock 1, NZOIA Bush 1, National Raft Guide Grade 2
Molly Ngatai – Lead Instructor
Molly has over 5 years experience ontop of being at Learn Active for over 4 years, developing and running adventure based programmes for children and youth in outdoor contexts. She is passionate about making the outdoors more accessible to people from all walks of life.
Qualifications gained: Bachelor of Occupational Therapy, Diploma in Outdoor leadership and management, NZOIA rock, abseil and bush leader.
Christie Hart- Instructor
Christie has been with Learn Active for over 5 years and holds an outdoor education qualifications including 2 NZOIA awards. She is passionate about promoting and encouraging personal development with people who have an intellectual disability.
Qualifications gained: Diploma in Adventure Tourism, NZOIA bush, rock and abseil leader awards
Stef Waldon – Instructor Stef has over 10 years experience in the Outdoor Education industry. She has an extensive background in working with all walks of life in the outdoor environment. She is passionate about sharing her love of the outdoors and making it more accessible to others.
